Watch the Inspirational First Trailer for ‘I Play Rocky’

5 days ago 23

I rarely feel anything from seeing trailers. Sure they might pique my interests, and I’ll remind myself to give the movie a watch eventually, but rarely do I feel any sense of emotion from watching a trailer. But there is something different about I play Rocky.

I Play Rocky is a movie detailing Sylvester Stallone’s struggles with not only getting studio executives to believe in his script, but to allow a virtual unknown actor to play the lead. I didn’t realize this story needed to be told, but after seeing the trailer, I’m convinced of its merit.

Anthony Ippolito gives a fantastic impression of Sylvester Stallone, down to the mannerisms and voice, and Stephen James is almost a spitting image of Carl Weathers in his headgear as he plays Apollo Creed.

I Play Rocky | Official Trailer

Sylvester Stallone has always emphasized the inspirational aspect of Rocky, portraying him as a Christian family man, with high moral character, and fierce love and loyalty. This trailer feels like it captures that same spirit as it tells a real-life underdog story. And America loves underdogs, hence why Rocky was such a breakout hit. I look forward to seeing I Play Rocky when it premieres on November 20, 2026.

The first Rocky came out before I was born, so Stallone has been in my life from my very first memories. The Rocky series holds a special place in my family as we moved from base to base, having very little entertainment to watch in those days besides those VHS tapes that we wore thin. The franchise is so dear to me that I’ve even defended Rocky V!
