The main original story in this issue is called “Gauntlet Origins: Electro.” The main Spidey title, Amazing Spider-Man, is about to begin a storyline called Gauntlet that will pit Spider-Man against all his famous foes. So it would kind of make sense to have a retelling of his origin. This isn’t so much an origin story, though, as a “what happened AFTER he got his electric power” story. It seems he was visited by Magneto who wanted to bring Electro into the original Brotherhood of Evil Mutants because magnetism and electricity have obvious synergy. Electro says no.

I generally like stories about villains. This one is fine. Nothing great or bad.

The other non-reprint piece is about J. Jonah Jameson being kidnapped by a wannabe super-villain, who he ends up hiring as his guy friday. I’d say that’s far-fetched and dumb, but JJJ has a long history of associating with (and sometimes creating) supervillains–so this plot gets a free pass.
