Marvel Comics has announced Wiccan: Witches’ Road, the first solo series for title character Billy Kaplan, written by Wyatt Kennedy (Nights), with art by newcomer Andy Pereira. Beginning this December, the five-part comic sees Billy embark on a quest to save Hulkling/Teddy Altman’s life in the wake of the events of Imperial, “where he’ll face a new enemy and discover his unique role in protecting Earth from magical threats.”

Something Wiccan this way comes! A dark, macabre adventure awaits down the Witches’ Road that will reshape Wiccan — and the magical fabric of the Marvel Universe — forever… Wiccan and Hulkling arrive back on Earth, but nothing is ever easy for Marvel’s favorite (former) space emperors! With Hulkling grievously wounded, it’s up to Wiccan to save the day — but what lengths will he be willing to go to do so?
The book marks 20 years since Billy’s debut in Young Avengers #1 in 2005, and comes roughly a year after his reintroduction to the MCU in Agatha All Along (played by Joe Locke). As well as the various Young Avengers series, Billy has headlined various comics with his husband Teddy, including the 2021 Infinity Comics series Hulkling & Wiccan (by Josh Trujillo & Jodi Nishijima), and a 2022 Love Unlimited arc (by Trujillo & Tokitokoro).
It is also the first Marvel series for Kennedy, whose previous projects at the publisher include this year’s Pride Month special Marvel United. He states, “It’s a real thrill to be able to take Billy in such an unexpected direction and put him out of his element, introducing a new villain and a surprising ally that I know fans have been wanting to see. Obviously getting the chance to write one of Marvel’s best couples is a joy, but I’m really excited to dive deep into who Billy is as a single individual and explore what his title as Wiccan really means to both himself and the greater Marvel universe.”
Pereira adds, “I’m very happy that my debut is also Wiccan’s debut as a solo star, and the whole team and I are putting a lot of effort into making it the best it could be! I hope this is the first of many stories. I’m so excited to be drawing Billy and Teddy, in their really cool designs, along with the atmosphere Wyatt is doing a great job at creating. This being the Witches’ Road, the most challenging part is all the trees!”
Wiccan: Witches Road #1 will be released on December 3, with a main cover by Lucas Werneck, and variants by Russell Dauterman and Luciano Vecchio. Imperial #3 is out now, and the series will conclude in the meantime with issue #4 on October 29. The latest series starring Billy’s parents, Steve Orlando, Lorenzo Tammetta & Jacopo Camagni‘s The Vision and the Scarlet Witch, will also end with issue #5 on September 24.
