Taylor Sheridan’s series Landman is currently in production for its second season. When Landman debuted on Paramount+ in 2024, it became the most-watched original series on the platform, reaching 14.9 million households worldwide in its first month. Sheridan’s shows have been important to Paramount’s streaming service, so the renewal of Landman was expected. Even other Sheridan projects, such as Mayor of Kingstown, have received multiple seasons.
A recent report states that filming for Landman’s second season will move to a new location. Most of the second season has already been filmed in Texas, including cities like Fort Worth and Jacksboro. Now, production is shifting to Durant, Oklahoma, which is about 120 miles from Fort Worth. The change in location means the show will now feature scenes set in casinos, and casting calls are underway to find extras to play casino patrons.
Billy Bob Thornton, who stars in the series, recently spoke about the scripts for season two. He said, “I loved it. Taylor knows this show very well; he’s got a vision for it, so it’s pretty easy. I didn’t expect to read it and go, ‘Wait a minute, hang on here.’ It was great.” The second season will also introduce Sam Elliott as a regular cast member. Thornton commented on Elliott joining the show, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s been awesome. I’ve known Sam since the ’80s, so he and I go way back.”
There may be changes in the creative direction of the show in the new season. Taylor Sheridan, who directed the first two episodes and wrote the entire first season, is stepping back from the series to focus on other projects. Stephen Kay will direct all episodes of season two. Kay previously directed most of the episodes in the first season.
Thornton has said he wants to stay with Landman as long as he is wanted. He has praised Sheridan’s writing and has shown enthusiasm for the future of the series and the development of its characters. Filming is moving forward and is expected to finish in August. The show is on track to meet its scheduled release date in November 2025. The first season ended in January 2025 and received a 78% “Fresh” rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 64% audience score. The second season will aim to maintain or improve on that success, even as production moves to new locations and Sheridan steps back from direct involvement.
