One of the most controversial members of the Justice League just revealed the painful truth behind his fall from grace.
Action Comics #1082 brings readers back months prior to the events of Amanda Waller's war on the world's heroes, dropping them in the middle of an idyllic afternoon in Metropolis that was suddenly interrupted by a villainous Paul Booker, better known as Major Disaster. When a bystander loses their life due to Major Disaster's actions, Superman can only barely hold himself back in taking the villain down. Worse still, when the hero visits Booker in prison under the guise of Clark Kent, he finds a man who is not only openly repentant of his actions, but who understands full well that his best course of action is to simply give up, having been utterly broken by the fact that he was never the hero Superman believed he could be.

The original, pre-Crisis iteration of Major Disaster first appeared in the pages of 1966's Green Lantern #43 by Gardner Fox and Gil Kane. A small-time criminal looking for a big payday, Booker stumbled upon the identities of multiple superheroes before using that knowledge, and earthquake-inducing weapons, against the likes of Hal Jordan and Barry Allen. Capable of causing all manner of natural disasters to manifest in an instant thanks to having slowly internalized the high-tech weapons he employed for decades, Major Disaster's powers make him one of the most destructive forces that the DC Universe has to offer, though he hasn't always used his abilities for the worst.
After years of being bested by the likes of the Justice League of America, Major Disaster was given the chance to prove himself as a hero by joining their ranks for himself. This came during Maxwell Lord's time running the JLA and its various offshoot teams. Apart from having a role on the primary Justice League roster, Major Disaster would become a part of both the short-lived Justice League Antarctica and the clandestine Justice League Elite, not to mention having roles on teams ranging from the Suicide Squad to the Army of Crime.

Like the original Major Disaster, the modern iteration of the character has been both a member and enemy of the Justice League at different points in his career. Despite serving dutifully as a hero, Major Disaster ultimately fell back into his old habits as a costumed criminal. This led him to join forces with the likes of Vandal Savage, the Atomic Skull, and the malevolent artificial intelligence known as Genie in various plots against the Justice League.
