The following contains major spoilers for Storm #4, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
The X-Men's very own Weather Witch has become something more than mere mutant.
Storm #4 finds the titular hero making a long overdue visit to the home of none other than the Sorcerer Supreme himself - Doctor Doom. While the two are more than happy to settle into an elegant meal with one another, it isn't long before tempers, and powers, are sent hurtling across the dining hall. Unfortunately for Storm, this flies in the face of the dark deal made on her behalf, and as such her life is forfeit to forces beyond her comprehension. Or rather, it would be if not for the timely intervention of Eternity itself, and the universe would much rather see Ororo Munroe reborn as its own Eternal Storm than relegated to a dark, decrepit afterlife.

First seen in the pages of 1965's Strange Tales #138 in Steve Ditko and Stan Lee's closing story, "If Eternity Should Fail!," Eternity is the living embodiment of the Marvel Universe itself. As an Abstract Entity, Eternity exists beyond the bounds of human, or even superhuman life, standing as a truly undying, impossibly powerful being. Over the years, Eternity has been at the heart of numerous storylines, usually of an expansive, esoteric nature such as those involving the Defenders and primary Marvel Universe's interstellar Ultimates.
While Ororo Munroe, better known as Storm, has long been a key member of various X-Men lineups, the fall of Krakoa drove her to strike on her own in ways she never had before. After constructing a massive stronghold of her own, Storm set about taking on all manner of cataclysmic threats. When one of these came in the form of a radioactive young mutant who lost control of his powers, Storm was exposed to what would have been a lethal dose of radiation if not for the timely intervention of Doctor Voodoo.

When no one else could help Storm recover from her condition, she turned to Doctor Voodoo for a supernatural solution to her problem. Thankfully, the former Sorcerer Supreme was able to broker a deal on Storm's behalf. In exchange for saving her life, Storm promised the ancient entity known as Eégún that she would refrain from using her mutant abilities for one week. Upon breaking that deal during her meeting with Doom, there was nothing Storm herself could possibly do to prevent Eégún from taking her life, even with all of her astonishing abilities at her disposal.

X-Men
Since their debut in 1963, Marvel's X-Men have been more than just another superhero team. While the team really hit its stride as the All New, All Different X-Men in 1975, Marvel's heroic mutants have always operated as super-outcasts, protecting a world that hates and fears them for their powers.
Key members of the X-Men include Professor X, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Wolverine, Iceman, Beast, Rogue, and Storm. Often framed as the world's second strongest superheroes, after the Avengers, they are nonetheless one of Marvel's most popular and important franchises.
