A fan-made Hulk short film from more than two decades ago has resurfaced online, and it is completely free to watch.
The 2003 Hulk-inspired short film Project Gamma quietly made its way back to YouTube more than four years ago courtesy of a channel simply known as "archives." Directed by David Sarrio, Project Gamma showcases a whole new kind of Hulk origin story, one in which Bruce Banner is the prime test subject in a new super-soldier program that quickly goes awry.
While the short doesn't have the best effects or highest production value, it does feature plenty of solid acting, as well as one particular sequence that showcases the Hulk mid-transformation using some truly unsettling practical and prosthetic effects. Upon its initial release, Project Gamma made the film festival rounds from 2003 up through 2006, when it was last screened at the 5th Glump Festival in Paris. Readers can check out the short for themselves down below.
Introduced back in 1962 in the pages of Incredible Hulk #1 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the titular behemoth has long been counted among the most powerful and feared characters in the Marvel Universe. The raging alter-ego of Doctor Bruce Banner, the Hulk is undoubtedly one of the strongest figures to ever arise from the pages of Marvel Comics, not to mention one of the most complex thanks to storylines and series like World War Hulk and Immortal Hulk, which helped redefine the Hulk on multiple levels.
Most recently, the Hulk of Marvel Comics has been effectively lost to the ancient, undying entity known as the Eldest. Born of the Mother of Horrors, the Eldest quite literally tore Bruce Banner and the Hulk free from one another before turning the latter into her own living vessel on Earth. With the Hulk's impossible power under her command, the Eldest is now capable of wreaking havoc across the world as seen in the currently ongoing Infernal Hulk series by writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson and artist Nic Klein.
The Hulk Is A Marvel Comics Icon
Image via Marvel StudiosWhile the Hulk has long been a mainstay of the world of Marvel Comics, he has also been a key fixture of numerous live-action adaptations of various Marvel properties. Throughout the late-70s and early '80s, Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno dominated the airwaves as Bruce Banner and his titular alter-ego on The Incredible Hulk, which ran for nearly five years and spawned numerous made-for-TV films that marked the debuts of characters ranging from Daredevil to the Mighty Thor.
In 2003, Eric Banna portrayed the titular character of director Ang Lee's Hulk feature film, while Edward Norton stepped into the role for 2008's The Incredible Hulk, which marked the second entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Iron Man earlier that year. Since 2012's The Avengers, the role of Bruce Banner a.k.a the Hulk has been portrayed by Mark Ruffalo, who audiences immediately warmed up to and who is set to make his ninth feature film appearance as the character with the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026.
Project Gamma is now streaming on YouTube.
