Last year, Marvel Comics and DC Comics surprised readers by announcing that they’ll be doing their first crossover in more than 20 years. The result was two one-shot anthologies that saw Deadpool and Batman cross paths, along with many other characters in back-up stories.

In 2026, the publishers are back at it again with another intercompany crossover. This time around, the two anthologies centre around Superman and Spider-Man, harkening back to the first time DC Comics and Marvel Comics crossed over 50 years ago.

Dive deeper into this DC/Marvel crossover with this handy guide. You’ll find out which characters and creators are involved, when each anthology comes out and much more.

This crossover has happened before

As alluded to, it’s not the first time Spider-Man and Superman have crossed paths. It first happened all the way back in 1976’s Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man #1. Titled “The Battle of the Century“, this was the inaugural DC/Marvel crossover and featured a story that highlighted the similarities between the two heroes.

This was followed up in 1981 with a team-up called “Superman and Spider-Man“. In this one, the pair face Doctor Doom and Parasite.

Both of these comics have been rarely reprinted in the last 50 years due to the nature of the crossover. This has seen both go for lofty prices in the subsequent years, which are more targeted at collectors than readers. However, that recently changed…

Marvel and DC have reprinted facsimile editions of both crossovers in the treasury format. These aim to simulate the original presentation, featuring the same trade dress. Treasury Edition 50th Anniversary of Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man #1 was published on 7th January, and DC and Marvel Present: Superman and Spider-Man Treasury Edition #1 will hit the shelves on 4th February.

Will there be future DC Comics/Marvel Comics crossovers?

In last year’s Deadpool/Batman guide, I told readers not to expect another crossover anytime soon based on comments by Jim Lee (DC Comics Publisher, President, and Chief Creative Officer). However, Superman/Spider-Man was then announced a few months later. So who knows if there will be any more crossovers in the works?

To speculate, I assume these will become less frequent. They take significant effort to coordinate, and become less special the more that are published. Beyond taking advantage of the momentum from the Deadpool/Batman crossovers, the Superman/Spider-Man one-shots are also being published in 2026 to celebrate the first DC Comics/Marvel crossover, which turns 50 years old this year.
