Aaron Paul's Devastating Reason for Leaving Invincible

Patrik Walker is an Emmy Award–winning writer who covers all things Comics & Superheroes. His work can also be found at the Dallas Cowboys, The Sporting News, and CBS Sports, among other outlets. One of the most respected names in his field, he is also a diehard enthusiast of all things comics, anime, gaming and movies — thriving in spaces where discussions involving those or similar topics reign supreme.

Sometimes, a creative addition or originator of an exceptional comic book series, TV series or movie franchise is forced to walk away. At times, it's because of creative differences, other times it's an in-house feud with the studio and, in yet another instance, the divorce is simply due to the fact there's no time — as Mike Flanagan recently confessed regarding Clayface — but something entirely different applies to Aaron Paul and Invincible.

The legendary Prime Video series is something fans simply can't get enough of, and particularly those who have witnessed it spin off of the comics by the same name that follows the life of Invincible, Atom Eve and Omni-Man, but Paul couldn't bring himself to continue with the series as it prepares for Season 4 to land in March 2026, he detailed in an interview with the Kinda Funny Gamescast.

Invincible Season 4’s Most Terrifying Threat Has Been Confirmed

Mark Grayson has proven he's learning to become more powerful, but an extinction level threat is headed his way for Season 4 of Invincible.

"I did a couple of episodes, and they asked me to come back for next season, but I've got to tell you ... that show, I'm such a fan of. I watch every episode. I love it. It was just way too grueling on my psyche. It was such an emotional — I have such respect for what they're doing."

The award-winning actor most known for his classic role as Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad and El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, supplied the voice for Scott Duvall a.k.a. Powerplex in Season 3 — a supervillain that doubles as a mentally unstable and downright delusional scientist who wants Invincible dead after Duvall's niece (Gretchen) and sister (Jessica) were killed, unintentionally in the Destruction of Chicago, followed by his son (Jack) and wife (Becky) also passing away during a plot to try and destroy Invincible; and that means Powerplex's trauma-fueled rage is palpable.

Invincible Season 4’s Thrilling Trailer Reveals Its Release Date

The official release date of Season 4 of the legendary series Invincible has been revealed, and in hilarious fashion as the trailer lands with a boom.

'He's Going Through Things'

There's no way to rightfully describe the torment that owned Powerplex throughout his journey to try and send Invincible to a grave. It was already devouring him following the loss of his sister and niece, but it ratcheted up to boundless levels when the additional grief hit, and due to the fact he and his family refused to accept the prior two deaths as events that were not done purposefully by Invincible, costing Duvall infinitely more before it was all said-and-done. In the end, the character was simply too triggering and emotionally exhausting for Paul to continue to portray.

"Powerplex is not just messing around. He's going through things. Turmoil. I put myself in that skin, and it was a skin I didn't feel comfortable in, to be honest. I didn't want to do it anymore. ...The thing is, everyone involved in that is amazing. What it did to me, I didn't like. I couldn't continue."

It's unfortunate Invincible will have to move forward without the exceptional talent of Paul, but move forward they must, and have. The supervillain that awaits Invincible and Atom Eve in Season 4 has already been named, and the franchise is also set to release its first-ever fighting game that promises to have "more blood per minute" than Prime Video's already viscerally brutal show already delivers; just don't count on seeing Powerplex ever again ... and least not with Paul ... because Scott Duvall broke a little bit too bad for his taste.
