Fans just got their best look at the Absolute Scarecrow yet, and he might be the scariest foe that Absolute Batman has faced yet.
Per a recent post from industry news account Discussing Film, fans can catch a glimpse of the Absolute Scarecrow in all his horrifying glory. The image offers a better look at Scarecrow's face than what readers have already seen, showcasing his button eyes and stitched-together face in gruesome detail. Readers can check out the image for themselves down below.
Fans got their first look at the Absolute Scarecrow back in January when the cover art for Absolute Batman #19, slated to arrive in June, made its way online. In the main cover art for the issue, the Absolute Scarecrow can be seen in the reflections of Batman's blades, with the updated take on the classic villain wearing a rather ordinary suit to belie his true, monstrous nature.
The official solicit synopsis for Absolute Batman #19 from DC Comics reads, "Poison Ivy proved to be just one of the many horrors within the bowels of the ARK M facility, and as Joker sets his sights on Absolute Batman, he decides to enlist the help of one of the center's most terrifying doctors, Dr. Jonathan Crane. While Bruce Wayne tries to align himself with Barbara Gordon, there's more than one alliance formed in this issue. New debuts, new villains, new arc starts here."
The Absolute Scarecrow will be just the latest in a long line of iconic Batman villains to receive the Absolute treatment over the past two years. While some, like Catwoman and Black Mask, have remained largely unchanged compared to their usual selves, others, like Killer Croc, Bane, and The Joker have all been reimagined in deeply unsettling ways.
DC Comics Promises That An Absolute Universe Crossover Is On The Way
Image via DC ComicsOf course, with so many villains stepping into the spotlight, the heroes of the Absolute Universe have more than enough to worry about when it comes to keeping their world safe. Fortunately, it looks like these heroes will be teaming up at some point later this year courtesy of the Absolute Universe's very first crossover event.
During an appearance at ComicsPRO, DC Comics Executive Editor Chris Conroy opened up about the event, stating, "As I think you all know, we are very mindful about keeping the Absolute Universe sort of at the size it is, keeping it easy to understand, keeping it easy to onboard. We will have one other thing this year. It's the first Absolute Universe event. This will be in Q4. We're going to do it our way, the Absolute way."
For those who may be daunted about exploring the Absolute Universe, fear not. "This is going to be easy to understand, it's going to be easy to get on board, it’s not going to disrupt the stories," Conroy continued. "[The Absolute Universe event] is going to kind of build the universe in the same way that Absolute Evil did, so, as you can see, you get an incredible book like Absolute Green Arrow out of just the one-shot."
