After ‘Resident Evil’, Zach Cregger is Headed Into Deep Space

Zach Cregger is moving from Resident Evil to an original science-fiction thriller, not a sequel to the video game adaptation that just delivered the biggest opening of his directing career. Resident Evil opened to about $108.3 million worldwide, including roughly $60 million in North America. The launch set a franchise record and gave Cregger another box-office win after Weapons. The Flood, his next directing project, is scheduled to reach theaters on Aug. 11, 2028. Warner Bros. announced The Flood at CinemaCon in April. The studio will release the film with Amblin, marking another major bet on Cregger after Weapons brought in about $270 million worldwide. Cregger wrote The Flood from an original idea. World of Reel recently reported that they reviewed the script and described the movie as Alien meets 2001: A Space Odyssey. The report says the story centers on a female captain at a distant space station. After her crew follows a signal from a remote planet, they find an alien object that changes time, reality, and the minds of those around it.
