This is a developing story.

V for Vendetta is about to make its live-action return decades after the original movie reached silver screens.

Variety has confirmed that HBO Max will develop V for Vendetta into a television adaptation. The report notes that James Gunn and Peter Safran are set to produce the show, which will be written by Pete Jackson, per the outlet's sources. No further comment has been made by HBO Max, and little detail about the series outside the announcement of its development has been shared. Jackson has not spoken about his screenplay for the V for Vendetta HBO Max adaptation; Gunn and Safran have yet to comment as well.

V for Vendetta was originally published as a British anthology series in 1982, written by Alan Moore with illustrations by David Lloyd. Starting in 1988, V for Vendetta was published by DC Comics. Diving deep into a dystopian British backdrop, V for Vendetta explores the country under a fascist regime. The iconic imagery of the Guy Fawkes mask was popularized by V for Vendetta's V, who dons the mask as his guise as he aims to take down the government. The V for Vendetta streaming adaptation would join HBO Max's catalog of DC Comics-inspired media on the streaming platform, joining the likes of The Penguin, Lanterns, and Peacemaker.

As a Fathom Events exclusive release, V for Vendetta will make its way back into theaters. “From its early days as a graphic novel and then a feature film, few properties have struck a chord with fans and been more thought-provoking societally than V for Vendetta,” Vice President of Studio Relations at Fathom Entertainment Tom Lucas said, per Variety. “Twenty years later, the movie still resonates, and Fathom is so pleased to bring it back to theaters next November with our partners at Warner Bros. and Saga Arts.”

V for Vendetta will re-release in theaters on Nov. 1 and Nov. 5, 2026. The HBO Max adaptation of V for Vendetta does not have any release date at the moment.
