Alan Ritchson Blames Trump for Dropped ‘Reacher’ Militia Plot

Reacher star Alan Ritchson said an adaptation of Lee Child’s 1998 novel Die Trying was approved for the Prime Video series before it was dropped after “someone got re-elected,” a remark widely seen as a reference to President Donald Trump’s 2024 victory. Ritchson made the claim in a Sept. 18 reply on Threads. He was responding to a fan who complained that the show hadn’t adapted the novel in which Jack Reacher takes on a white supremacist militia. “My favorite book,” Ritchson wrote. “Fun fact: I had it approved until someone got re-elected,” an obvious swipe at President Trump. Die Trying is the second novel in Child’s Jack Reacher series. The book follows Reacher and the daughter of a senior military official after they are kidnapped by an extremist militia. The show’s fifth season has already been set to adapt Child’s novel Make Me, not Die Trying, so it is unclear what Ritchson meant.
