Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed that the next era of the James Bond franchise will redefine the legendary spy as fully gender-neutral. The character—now identified solely as “Agent 007”—will represent a “fluid interpretation of masculinity, femininity, and espionage,” according to a statement from studio head Jennifer Salke.
“We’ve reimagined Bond not as a man or woman, but as a vibe,” Salke said. “This 007 won’t shake or stir—it’ll self-express.” The studio is reportedly testing multiple actors, including Tilda Swinton, Ezra Miller, and an AI-generated hologram of Sean Connery’s conscience, for the titular role.
Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson expressed excitement about “moving past labels.” “For too long, Bond has been trapped by expectation,” Wilson explained. “From now on, Bond’s pronouns are simply classified.”
Critics have dubbed the move “the biggest disruption to international spy cinema since Austin Powers in Goldmember.” Sources close to production say the new Bond will trade in martinis for matcha and solve global crises through carefully moderated dialogue sessions. The working title, Quantum of Inclusion, is already trending across social media during the important April Fool’s Day observance.
