The following contains major spoilers for The Last Wolverine #1, on sale October 22 from Marvel Comics.

There's a new Wolverine in the Age of Revelation, and he is the perfect pick that nobody saw coming.

In a preview of The Last Wolverine #1 (by Saladin Ahmed, Edgar Salazar, Carlos Lopez, and VC's Cory Petit) from Marvel Comics, readers watch on as a pair of young children wait for someone to come to their rescue as their apartment building burns down all around them. Thankfully, these kids aren't wrong when they assume that help is on the way. In fact, the pair are delighted to see that none other than the Wonderful Wolverine himself heard their cries for help, just as Leonard the Wendigo is more than happy to play the role of the hero that Logan always knew he could be.

The legend of the monstrous Wendigo is one that has played a key role in the Marvel Universe for more than five decades. Marvel Comics' original Wendigo, the tragic hunter Paul Cartier, made his debut all the way back in 1973's Incredible Hulk #162 by Steve Englehart and Herb Trimpe. Not long after his disappearance, Paul's friend Georges Baptiste carried out a ritual that transferred the curse, though not before the Wendigo could become a known enemy of the Incredible Hulk. In the years since, numerous characters have taken on the curse of the Wendigo, though few have stood out quite like the future Wolverine known as Leonard.

Introduced in 2024's Wolverine #2 by Saladin Ahmed and Martín Cóccolo, the latest Wendigo to take center stage in the Marvel Universe was once a man known as Leonard. Upon his debut, Leonard was terrorizing a secluded forest where Wolverine just so happened to be under siege by both his old enemy Cyber and an army of Department H operatives. Rather than merely tearing through this new Wendigo, however, Logan took it upon himself to help the hulking beast reclaim whatever remained of his humanity, which turned out to be far more than anyone was expecting. Not only did Logan help Leonard learn how to speak again and recall who he once was, he turned the new Wendigo into a hero in his own right.

What Is Marvel's Age of Revelation?

Marvel Comics' Age of Revelation takes place ten years into the future of the primary Marvel Universe, setting up some particularly unsettling storylines with even more unnerving implications for things yet to come. Ushered in by the heir to Apocalypse known as Revelation, formerly Doug Ramsey aka Cypher, the Age of Revelation has seen its eponymous overlord use his powers to bend the will and minds of nearly all who hear his call, which is carried far and wide by his legion of Choristers. While Revelation rules over the majority of the world that readers have seen so far, there are still plenty of holdouts who continue to fight back against his regime, no matter how overwhelming the odds nor how many fellow heroes are lost along the way.
