Sigma Comics has been publishing a series of trade paperbacks starring Calico, a vigilante who is essentially a Punisher-like character who specifically targets people who abuse animals (CALICO: Street Math and CALICO: Morality Play). In its comics, Sigma Comics promotes charities that fight animal abuse, as well. Sigma Comics noted in a press release that it has been selling well at comic book conventions, "We're not sales people yet, we're selling hundreds of pounds of Here Comes CALICO at conventions all across the continent, and we have an awesome team,"

In its upcoming third volume, set to debut on Kickstarter on May 1st, Sigma Comics is introducing a brand-new anti-hero, Pig Bath, who will serve as Calico's antagonist in the volume. Pig Bath is a Punisher-like vigilante who specifically targets corrupt cops for his punishment. CBR gets to share an exclusive page from Calico: Unwanted Men ahead! The trade paperback will be written by H.H. German, drawn by Renato Pinto and Mithun Roy, with a cover by Garnabiel.

What is Pig Bath's deal?

H.H. German, writer of the series, and Calico's creator, discussed Pig Bath in a Sigma Comics press release, "Whereas CALICO's war is against people who abuse animals, PIG BATH is focused on getting bad cops off the street. Permanently."

He continued, "They're both very dark characters, antiheroes, but PIG BATH is definitely operating in darker territory. Hector Gil, CALICO, is a character who, deep down, wants to be one of the good guys. He knows his tactics are extreme, but he tries to uphold a moral code. PIG BATH goes far beyond any semblance of morality, which is why I positioned him as an antagonistic force in CALICO: Unwanted Men."

On its website, Sigma Comics explains how it helps to promote animal charities in its comic books:

Here Comes CALICO was created to support vetted animal rights and welfare groups by increasing their exposure to a growing audience of readers who are as passionate about animal rights as we are. By simply reading CALICO, your investment will go to increasing both exposure and funding for these special groups, so you can actually make a REAL difference! The more comic books we sell, the more exposure these groups receive, at no cost AT ALL to them! The groups we support are: the Animal Welfare Institute, Catskill Animal Sanctuary and others promoted in our books. Each of these organizations has a proven track record of *actually* helping animal causes, and in some cases, even working with local governments to ensure lasting change!

Sigma Comics has shared a number of testimonials from major comic book figures, like Jeph Loeb, David Finch, and Ryan Ottley. Finch noted, "This is a great book, by great people, for a great cause," while Loeb shared, "Be a REAL HERO! Help save animals and you're a superhero."
