Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.
It is always such a blast to see Batman crossing paths with characters from other comic book universes, but there are some crossovers that, for years, could only exist in fans' imaginations. Well, it does not have to be just a dream, thanks to Fortnite.
The popular online video game has welcomed Batman into its expansive and bizarre world, but not just any version of The Dark Knight. A skin inspired by Batman Beyond has become officially available for gameplay.
Fortnite users even have the option to play as The Joker, particularly the unsettling, mysteriously resurrected version of the Clown Prince of Crime who appears in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker from 2000. That sounds like a pretty wicked way to recreate the events of that beloved animated Batman movie spun off from the hit series.
The Batman Beyond and Joker Beyond skins are available with the purchase of an entire bundle of Fortnite accessories inspired by Batman Beyond. Gamers playing as Batman can fly with retractable wings and take out enemies with the variant's special design of the Batarang and a "Batman Beyond Axe," which is a specially designed guitar used as a melee weapon.
Speaking of melee weapons, the damage that Joker's "Jolly Jack Sledge" could cause appears to be no laughing matter, and the same goes for the 3 Jokerz Monte, which is a firearm that does more than pop out a flag reading "BANG!" Users can also equip the Joker with "Back Bling" in the form of a "Joker in the Box," which does not offer much use in battle, but does make this supervillain look even creepier.
Fortnite players who are also fans of all things LEGO can have access to a special treat when purchasing the Batman Beyond Bundle. There are LEGO-style skins of both Batman Beyond and Joker Beyond available to play as.
Batman Beyond is a spin-off of Batman: The Animated Series, taking place in a futuristic Gotham, where an aged Bruce Wayne (late, legendary Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy) takes skilled teen Terry McGuinness (Will Friedle) under his wing as an ally to help him continue his war on crime as the new Dark Knight. The show, which aired on The CW (when it was still called The WB) from 1999 to 2001, became popular enough to inspire its own DC comic book series and, now, lives on in the universe of Fortnite.
Batman Already Has A History With Fortnite

Players can practically be whatever version of Bruce Wayne's alter ego they want to be, with available skins such as DC's New 52-era costume, Christian Bale from Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, and even The Batman Who Laughs, who is an interdimensional version of the Caped Crusader permanently corrupted by Joker venom.
Fans who cannot get enough of seeing Gotham's protector roaming the Fortnite universe away from the video game controller just have to turn to the original medium that first introduced the superhero. In 2021, DC joined forces with Epic Games to release a special, six-part tie-in comic book called Batman/Fortnite: Zero Point, in which Bruce Wayne becomes mysteriously transported into the world of the game with no memory of his past. The printed issues also included special codes that grant access to special purchasable items, such as a skin inspired by the DC Rebirth-era Harley Quinn.
Fortnite was developed by Epic Games and first released in 2017, and has amassed hundreds of millions of registered players since. It is available to play on multiple gaming platforms and consoles. Batman Beyond is now available in Fortnite.
