The following contains major spoilers for DC K.O.: Knightfight #1, on sale November 5 from DC Comics.
One of the most important parts of Batman's legacy is about to be his death sentence, thanks to his early loss in DC K.O.
In a preview of DC K.O.: Knightfight #1 (by Joshua Williamson, Dan Mora, Tríona Farrell, and Tom Napolitano) from DC Comics, readers are taken back to the moment that Batman was run through with the Joker's blade during the initial rush in the opening issue of DC K.O. Fortunately, the Dark Knight outfitted his suit with Boom Tube technology tailor-made to bring him home should anything happen to him. That being said, the Gotham City that Bruce ends up returning to is far from the one he was stolen away from, and its Robins are anything but happy to see him.

The mantle of Robin is one of the oldest and most iconic in DC Comics history. The first Robin, Dick Grayson, made his debut in Bill Finger and Bob Kane's opening story from Detective Comics #38, "Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder," originally published all the way back in 1940. Since then, numerous others have taken on the mantle of Robin for themselves, including Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, and Damian Wayne.
The sprawling tournament that is at the heart of DC K.O. was first teased back in July, just ahead of San Diego Comic-Con. DC K.O. co-architect and writer Scott Snyder described the event's overarching narrative as "a knock-down, drag-out fight between all your favorite DC Super Heroes in a cosmic tournament to save the universe from Darkseid." Snyder added, "Darkseid has evolved into something bigger and stronger than ever... There’s no future for the DC Universe because of what he’s done—the heroes’ only shot is to stop him in the present... You have to be merciless to win, and when you’re out, you’re out."
In DC K.O. #1 by Scott Snyder, Javi Fernández, Xermánico, Alejandro Sánchez, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, readers saw dozens of the greatest heroes and villains in the DC Universe brought together to face off against one another in a bid to determine who among them is capable of wielding the power necessary to defeat Darkseid. As explained by the Quantum Quarum, consisting of the Time Trapper (formerly Doomsday), the World Forger, Grodd, and Booster Gold, the classic villain has ascended to the role of King Omega, giving him near-total control over the shape of the Absolute Universe, not to mention a threat to the entire Multiverse. To make matters worse, Darkseid has already been seen lurking among the heroes, all from behind the veil of none other than everyone's favorite time-hopping adventurer turned Quantum Quarum and Justice League insider — Booster Gold.
