Batman's newest costume just debuted on upcoming Detective Comics covers, and it could have a huge impact on the DC Universe.

Fans have seen the Dark Knight adopt a few mission-specific batsuits over the years, though solicits for the upcoming January and February issues of Detective Comics by Tom Taylor and Mikel Janin tease the end of the current "The Courage That Kills" storyline, which saw Batman infected with an incredibly contagious virus that completely removed his ability to feel fear. Readers can check out the revealed cover art from Mikel Janín and Björn Barends below!

INFECTED. CONTAGIOUS. AND RUNNING OUT OF TIME! With mere hours to go before Batman’s mind and body are destroyed by the Lion’s anti-fear virus, Batman takes drastic measures and seals himself inside an airtight suit to keep those around him safe while continuing his desperate search for a cure. But with the virus already taking hold and Batman’s fears melting away, the world will soon see how dangerous a Dark Knight without fear is. “The Courage That Kills" continues in this penultimate chapter that will need to be seen to be believed!

The new suit not only armors him up for the upcoming battle with Scarecrow and the new villain known as the Lion, but also protects everyone around from being infected as well. But as revealed in February's following cover, the suit only holds for so long, exposing others to the anti-fear virus that is ravaging the Dark Knight.

Batman is normally a very controlled person, which allows him to overcome his fear when he is forced to confront it by Gotham City villains like Scarecrow. However, now unleashed from his usual restraint, Batman's overblown courage could get him into more trouble than ever. And if his new suit is his only way to protect everyone from the virus's contagion, then it doesn't look too good for Gotham City. anyone in

What started as a mysterious infection on a boat in Gotham Harbor has grown into one of the most formidable threats Gotham City has ever faced! Now, with mere hours to go before Batman’s system is entirely overtaken by his infection, the Dark Knight must attempt to save his city—and himself—before it’s too late! Tom Taylor and Mikel Janín’s exhilarating exploration of the terror of a world without fear ends here!

The new batsuit from the finale for "The Courage That Kills" is unique from most batsuits in the sense that it adds some formidable bulk to the Dark Knight. This has had huge benefits for the Absolute variant of the character, who is one of the biggest versions of Batman that fans have ever seen. While this new replacement containment suit is only a temporary bulk for the storyline, it could highlight a new preference for a larger Batman that might even have an impact on his still-to-be-cast live-action DCU actor.

Detective Comics #1105 will hit comic shelves on January 28, 2026, with Detective Comics #1106 wrapping up the storyline on February 25, 2026.

The cover to Batman issue #1 depicts Bruce Wayne as Batman and Dick Grayson as Robin swinging through Gotham City.
