Comics award season has just wrapped up with the Ringos, the Harveys and the Ignatzes…and now Best Book season is upon us! As is tradition, Publishers Weekly has kicked things off with their annual Best Books list. Although comics didn’t make the Top Ten this time out, there were six selections for Best Comics of the year, dominated by some heavyweights:

  • Black Arms to Hold You Up: A History of Black Resistance, Ben Passmore (Pantheon)
  • Black Cohosh, Eagle Valiant Brosi (Drawn & Quarterly)
  • Do Admit: The Mitford Sisters and Me, Mimi Pond (Drawn & Quarterly)
  • The Once and Future Riot, Joe Sacco (Metropolitan)
  • Spent, Alison Bechdel (Mariner)
  • Tongues, Vol. 1, Anders Nilsen (Pantheon)

Two graphic novels made the Best YA list, as well:

  • Angelica and the Bear Prince, Trung Le Nguyen (Random House Graphic)
  • This Place Kills Me, Mariko Tamaki and Nicole Goux (Abrams)

And we’re off! What do you think should be on the Best Comics of ’25 list? Let us know in the comments.
