IDW Publishing's hit comic book prequel to Event Horizon keeps pushing past expectations as the series makes major waves with readers and fans.

Per a press release from IDW Publishing, it was confirmed that orders for the third and fourth issues of Event Horizon: Dark Descent have gone up in just the past two days. While this may not seem like that momentous of an occasion, it is a testament to the title's overwhelming popularity, as most limited series would begin sloughing off some number of sales to reader attrition at the same point in their lifecycle. Writer Christian Ward himself opened up about the development on social media, writing, "Just heard that our order numbers for Event Horizon: Dark Descent #4 are UP from #3 which were in turn were up from #2! Thank you so much to all the retailers and readers for all the support. Trust me, myself and @idwpublishing.com are only just beginning when it comes to Event Horizon"

Announced back in May, Event Horizon: Dark Descent is set before the events of director Paul Anderson's infamous 1997 sci-fi horror. Event Horizon: Dark Descent follows Doctor William G. Weir, who designed the eponymous ship and its experimental gravity drive, as well as the original crew of the Event Horizon on their ill-fated journey across the cosmos. While the film showcased all the horror that the crew met when their trek brought them to the edge of Hell itself (or brought Hell to them), Event Horizon: Dark Descent gives readers a chance to find out exactly what brought it all about in the first place.

Upon the announcement that Event Horizon: Dark Descent would be headed to comic book stores, artist Tristan Jones discussed the experience. "I think what Christian's laying out and adding to the lore is going to surprise people," Jones said at the time. "It's certainly given me a lot of gnarly, visceral stuff to chew on visually, which is always fun and knowing that this is being done directly in collaboration with the team behind the film certainly helps lock things in as something fans of the film will want to explore with us."

During a recent interview, writer Christian Ward discussed his approach to Event Horizon: Dark Descent, explaining, "My goal was that I wanted to write a story that would change how one might view the film. As far as where this all came from, it's wholly original, but obviously inspired from watching the film. I avoided researching early drafts as I wanted to feel like it's my story to tell... That said, the one element of fan service that is in the series is the infamous 'blood orgy' sequence that was cut from the film. You'll have to pick up Issue #4 to see how we're using that, though. That issue will make you cry and recoil in equal measure."

Event Horizon: Dark Descent #3 is on sale now from IDW Publishing.
