X-Men darling and legendary comic book creator Chris Claremont promises that he isn't holding back on fans; he's just running behind schedule.
Speaking to CBR's Klein Felt during Emerald City Comic Con 2026, Claremont stated that he does indeed have new work on the way.
"Yes, I am doing new work that is slated to be on sale sooner than I dare to think about, and yes, I am that late, sorry." Claremont added, "I should actually be at home writing it now."

Claremont is one of the most beloved Marvel Comics scribes of all time, having risen through the ranks at the publisher from an editorial assistant in the late '60s to one of the defining writers when it comes to the mutants of the Marvel Universe. Over the course of an unforgettable run with the franchise, which spanned numerous titles, beginning with 1975's X-Men #94.
Claremont also opened up about his own inability to pinpoint any one storyline from throughout his nearly twenty-year initial run with the franchise as his personal favorite. "The challenge is, in my perception of the universe, it's all one. The X-Men is a one-issue storyline starting with #94 and extending to page 11 of #279... For me, it's life," Claremont explained.
""Uncanny is the life of these people. It's one story. It has little bits in it, and branches off to Excalibur and the first 1000 or so issues of Wolverine and New Mutants, definitely. But it's all one. It's all one [story]," Claremont added.
What's Next For Chris Claremont?

The majority seem to be leaning into the idea that Claremont is ready to return with yet another Marvel Comics throwback series, of which he has written over half a dozen in the past few years alone.
In 2022, Claremont returned to X-Treme X-Men for a third volume set just after where the original series left off years prior. That same year, Claremont returned to the world of Excalibur in X-Men Legends #12, as well as one of Gambit and Storm's wildest (and previously unseen) chapters in the fan-favorite Gambit: Thick as Thieves limited series.
More recently, Claremont has revisited some of the most beloved eras in the entire history of one of the X-Men's most iconic characters through a whole host of Wolverine throwback titles. 2024 saw the release of both Wolverine: Madripoor Knights and Wolverine: Deep Cut, which offered vastly different reading experiences thanks to being set in vastly different periods in Logan's life. In 2025, Claremont came back with three new throwback titles, including Wolverine, Wolverine & Kitty Pryde, and the highly-sought X-Men: Prelude to a Future Past.
