Chris Hemsworth Was Just Called 'A Baby With Muscles' By An MCU Co-Star

Thor actor Chris Hemsworth is slated to return in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday, after last being seen in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. In that movie, Thor joined forces with Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie to rescue kidnapped Asgardian children.

Thompson, who was promoting her latest project, Hedda, at the BFI London Film Festival, per Variety, reflected on her time in the MCU’s Thor movies, particularly what it was like working with Hemsworth. Hemsworth has played the God of Thunder in four Thor movies as well as multiple Avengers films.

When talking about her Thor co-star, Thomson said Hemsworth was “a baby with muscles, a very big infant” who exhibits “no inhibition” and “will do just anything you know, to get the laugh and to discover, so it’s a pleasure to work with him.” She added that his childlike nature was just the right fit for the Thor movies.

“It’s so goofy making those movies sometimes,” Thompson continued. “The mechanism of making those films requires a place of pure imagination, you know, where you just have to play like a kid,” she said. She added that she sought out a role in the MCU as Valkyrie because, “I really wanted to make a movie like that, because I’m not sure if I can do that, and I really want to figure out if I can. And it was just so much fun. It really, really freed me up.”

Hemsworth’s Take on the Comedic Nature of the Last Thor Movie

The “goofy” nature of the Thor films was on full display in Love and Thunder, which was the fourth installment in the Thor franchise. The movie’s somewhat over-the-top comedic tone left some fans disappointed, while others praised its silliness. Back in 2023, Hemsworth talked with GQ about Love and Thunder and why the movie may not have resonated with some Marvel fans, despite taking in more than $760 million at the worldwide box office.

Hemsworth said at that time that he recalls his friends and family saying that Love and Thunder “had too much humor” and that “the action was cool, but the VFX weren’t as good [as previous Thor movies].” He added that he thought the reason for the film relying too much on comedy was simply a result of the team having too much fun at a certain point and that the movie just became “too silly.”

Hemsworth added that it’s also challenging to be the lead in a film because sometimes it can blur his perspective on a project. "It's always hard being at the center of it and having any real perspective. I love the process, it's always a ride, but you just don't know how people are going to respond,” he said.

The Thor franchise, including Love and Thunder, is streaming on Disney+. Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on Dec. 18, 2026.
