Disney has released a new trailer for the upcoming Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord and it’s very reminiscent to the one we saw at least year’s Star Wars Celebration. That’s actually a good thing as the clip made us early believers in Maul’s (Sam Witwer) latest adventure.
As outlined in the trailer, he is on a mission of revenge even as he attempts to firm his grip in the galactic underworld. Will that distract him from his main target: the Empire? Either way, he’ll need a young Jedi exile to do it. But as her friend warns, Maul is no ally.
Set after he lost control of Mandalore in Star Wars: The Clone Wars but well before his participation in Star Wars Rebels, it remains to be seen how far this story can go. But we’re looking forward to it as Witwer’s Maul is an irresistible character and, somehow, the Lucasfilm Animation team found a way to make this series look painterly and even better executed than Star Wars: The Bad Batch. Also, that slowed-down version of “Duel of the Fates” used in the trailer is pretty rad. Of course, we won’t know how successful Shadow Lord will be in expanding the Star Wars story until the program debuts April 6th on Disney+.
