The latest DC Comics team-up book is bringing back more than one Milestone Icon.
A preview of Batman/Static: Beyond #1 (by Evan Narcisse, Nikolas Draper-Ivey, Wil Quintana, and Wes Abbott) from DC Comics, readers find Static leading the charge towards a whole new era for the DC Universe. As it turns out, Earth has been offered the chance to become a part of the universe's largest intergalactic alliance — The Cooperative. Of course, just because Earth has been given that opportunity doesn't mean it is a done deal. In fact, Static has been joined by some of the best, most capable heroes that Earth can call its own in proving exactly why it deserves a place in the Cooperative, and Milestone's other Icon is right there for the ride with the rest of them.

Otherwise known as Arnus or Augustus Freeman, the original Milestone Media superhero known as Icon made his debut back in 1993 in the very first issue of his own self-titled series created by the late, great Dwayne McDuffie and acclaimed artist M. D. Bright. A near-immortal alien whose trek across the galaxy ended in disaster, the future Icon's life pod crashed down in the rural American South in the mid-1800s, where its interstellar passenger took on the appearance of a black man in order to blend in with his surroundings. Over the course of centuries, Augustus continued to pose as the descendant of his original human alter-ego before eventually embarking upon a career as a superhero in the modern day alongside his sidekick, Raquel Ervin, aka Rocket.
The return of Terry McGinnis, better known as the Batman of Batman Beyond, and his similarly futuristic Virgil Hawkins, better known as Static, is one that readers have been waiting for since the pair first crossed paths in Nikolas Draper-Ivey's "Static Beyond" from the pages of 2023's Milestone 30th Anniversary Special. Before the release of Batman/Static: Beyond #1, writer Evan Narcisse discussed the foundation that story laid, stating, "I loved the dynamic Nik set up between Static and Batman in the Milestone 30th Anniversary Special where these characters first teamed up with each other, and the most exciting part of this new project has been exploring how different Terry and Virgil are from each other."
The official solicit synopsis for Batman/Static: Beyond #1 from DC Comics reads, "In the not-so-distant future, young hero Terry McGinnis patrols the streets of Neo-Gotham as Batman Beyond, while Virgil Hawkins, a.k.a. Static, forges a new technological revolution in Dakota City with the introduction of the Q-Wave Energy Grid. Together alongside the Justice League Beyond, the heroes prepare for Earth's induction into the interplanetary alliance known as the Cooperative. Everything seems to be going smoothly...until a new villain arrives on the scene and puts everything at risk. At the center of all the mayhem is the unlikely duo of Static and Batman Beyond, as they must work together to save the world before it's too late!"
Batman/Static: Beyond #1 goes on sale November 12 from DC Comics.
