The following contains major spoilers for Superman #28, on sale July 23 from DC Comics.

DC Comics' Man of Steel is about to have his first run-in with a whole new kind of Legion.

As seen in a preview for Superman #28 from DC Comics, what should be another ordinary day of saving lives and doing good for the titular hero is something far more sinister to his unseen enemies. It turns out that the Legion of Darkseid has been keeping tabs on the Man of Steel, all in the hopes of discovering not only what makes him tick, but what they can do to take him down when the time to face off against the legendary Superman finally arrives.

What is this Legion's deadly mission, and how does it kick off the next phase of All In?! Don't miss out on this crucial issue that sets up a massive event for Superman and the DC Universe!"

The Legion of Darkseid is just the latest iteration of the Legion of Super-Heroes to make its debut in the pages of DC Comics. Originally introduced back in the opening story from 1958's Adventure Comics #247, "The Legion of Super-Heroes" by Otto Binder and Al Plastino, the eponymous team of teenage superheroes hail from the far-off future of the 30th Century. Inspired by the stories of Superman's many adventures, the Legion came together as a force for good across the universe, with its ranks expanding to include dozens of heroes over the team's many iterations.

The Flash Going Through Major Changes Behind the Scenes

One of the hottest DC Comics titles is getting a major shakeup with its creative team, and the change is coming sooner than readers expected.

The dark, malevolent Legion of Darkseid has been teased since nearly the very beginning of DC Comics' Absolute Universe, which itself was first glimpsed as it exists today in the pages of 2024's DC All In Special #1. This oversized issue saw Darkseid attack the then newly christened Watchtower of the Justice League Unlimited, only to be obliterated by a supernaturally supercharged Superman.

Rather than being destroyed, Darkseid was instead able to separate his consciousness from the bounds of his own reality and traverse the Multiverse before becoming one with the very fabric of the reality of the Elseworld. The alternate dimension was once unreachable and has since become the grim, brutalist landscape known as the Absolute Universe courtesy of Darkseid's influence.
