Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.

One thing that the new DC Universe really seems to have going for it is versatility, based on the shared universe's line-up of upcoming titles. However, none of these announced projects is quite as unique as Dynamic Duo, an animated feature film that follows two characters known to wear the moniker of Batman's most trusted ally, Robin, and which recently added a big name to its creative team.

Jock, a prolific artist known best for his work with DC comics, confirmed his involvement with Dynamic Duo in Oct. 2025. When speaking with Popverse, the illustrator had this to say:

“I'm currently working on Dynamic Duo for DC... I actually came to New Orleans so that I could visit [Swaybox Studios]. They've got studios down there, so I've been designing stuff for them. Those guys are geniuses. I cannot wait to share what they've been up to.

Jock could not say much more about the film itself, but did reveal that his role in the production is visual development, which certainly sounds like something he can manage. He also adds that he is very excited to show what Swaybox Studios — the New Orleans-based puppet and animation production company behind the film — has in store for Dynamic Duo and teased its combination of puppeteering and CGI as "stunning." Before then, he mentions that he first became aware of the project through an email from Swaybox that bore the subject line, "Batman puppet film," which was enough to pique his interest.

Not much is known about the plot of Dynamic Duo, aside from the fact that the story will follow Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, both of whom have fought alongside The Dark Knight as Robin. Based on previous reports that the story is canon to the current timeline of DC movies overseen by James Gunn and Peter Safran, which is confirmed to be introducing a full-fledged assembly of the BatFamily, some DCU Batman fan theories suggest that this film will rewrite Dick and Jason's origin stories and depict them as aspiring vigilantes who become Robins on their own before being discovered and recruited by Bruce Wayne

Jock Is A Perfect Choice To Work On Dynamic Duo

Jock is the pseudonym used by Scottish comic book artist Mark Simpson, whose professional career began in the late 1990s with his work for the U.K.-based comic book magazine, 2000 AD, including series like Judge Dredd and Lenny Zero, the latter of which was also his first collaboration with writer Andy Diggle. With Diggle, he would make his breakthrough at DC Comics as an illustrator for the Vertigo title, The Losers.

Following more work on some of DC Vertigo's most iconic characters, such as John Constantine, Jock would go on to bring his distinct artistic style to more of the publisher's mainstream characters, such as Batman in series penned by Scott Snyder, including Death of the Family and The Batman Who Laughs. His work would earn him the chance to help bring some of the characters he has drawn to life on the big screen as a concept artist for acclaimed comic book movies like Batman Begins and 2012's Dredd.DC's Robins Origin Story Movie Just Received An Exciting Update

Considering his experience with Gotham City lore and using his singular artistic vision to help with film productions, Jock's collaboration with Swaybox is easily one of the most exciting updates to the development of Dynamic Duo yet.

Dynamic Duo is set to release in theaters on June 30, 2028.
