DC Studios' "Supergirl" to Explore Krypton's Legacy and the House of El

DC Studios' upcoming feature film, "Supergirl" is set to delve deeper into the storied legacy of Krypton and the House of El when it arrives in theaters next year. Following the groundbreaking events of "Superman" (2025), which revealed that Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van sent their son to Earth "not just to save his life, but to conquer our world," the new film promises to further expand and redefine the mythology surrounding Krypton's most renowned family.

Oppenheimer star David Krumholtz has shared new insights into his Supergirl role as Zor-El, Kara's father. "It's very true to the graphic novel that it's based on, Woman of Tomorrow," stated the the actor in an interview with Nerdtropolis. "Which is great. I'm thrilled to be sort of the next piece of telling the story of Krypton and sort of further clarifying what the House of El is all about."

Directed by Craig Gillespie, "Supergirl" is expected to offer audiences a more profound and emotionally resonant exploration of Krypton's culture, values, and internal divisions. Through Kara Zor-El's eyes, the film will present a new perspective on the planet's downfall and the ideals that shaped the El family, blending elements of epic science fiction with intimate character drama.

As the DC Universe continues to expand under the creative leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran, Supergirl will serve as a vital chapter in the evolving DCU narrative—bridging the themes introduced in Superman (2025) while charting its own path through the cosmos.

The cast features Milly Alcock as Supergirl, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Jason Momoa as Lobo, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze. Craig Gillespie directs from a script by Ana Nogueira.

"Supergirl" opens in theaters worldwide on June 26th, 2026.
