James Gunn’s DC Universe has not yet named its new live-action Batman, but the studio is already building a long history for Gotham’s Dark Knight. The planned The Brave and the Bold remains in development, while Warner Bros. is also moving forward with the animated Dynamic Duo. Gunn announced The Brave and the Bold as one of the first DCU projects. Andy Muschietti is attached to direct and Christina Hodson is attached to write, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film has received few public updates as Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II faces repeated delays and is now set for 2028. Still, the DCU has made clear that Batman already operates in this world. In the Lanterns episode “Bad Optics,” Hal Jordan says Guy Gardner copied “that Bat-fellow in Gotham” by putting up a Lantern signal in Rushville. The line confirms that Gotham’s Bat-Signal is already known to the public in the DCU. That reference, set in 2026, suggests Batman may have been active for years.
