A pitch-perfect piece of fan art casts Dexter star Michael C. Hall in a key role. In the photo, Hall makes his superhero debut as the son of Darkseid.
A recently uploaded piece of fan art by DeviantArt user Minsc93 showcases just how much of a fit Dexter star Michael C. Hall is for the role of Orion in the DCU. The fan art features Hall bearing Orion's trademark scars as the character removes his helmet, all while an equally perfectly cast Jamie Bell looks on in the role of Lightray. Readers can check out the art for themselves down below.
Who Is Orion?
Image via Minsc93 (Deviantart)Created by the legendary Jack Kirby, Orion first appeared alongside many of his fellow Fourth World characters in the pages of 1971's New Gods #1. The son of the dreaded Darkseid and the Apokoliptian ruler's second wife, Tigra, Orion was traded away to New Genesis to be raised by its ruler, Highfather, as part of a peace agreement between the two worlds. In turn, Scott Free, aka Mister Miracle, was handed off to be raised on Apokolips.
Unsurprisingly, the influence of Highfather and the other New Gods led Orion to become one of his adoptive homeworld's greatest heroes. With his god-like strength and immense power of the Astro-Force that he wields, Orion is more than enough to stand against almost any threat the DC Universe has to throw at him, which has made him a key figure in multiple storylines across comics and animated productions, though the character has yet to make his way into any live-action DC film as of yet.
What's Next for Michael C. Hall?
In 2025, Michael C. Hall returned to his infinitely iconic role as Dexter Morgan for Paramount Television Studios' Dexter: Resurrection. The series was lauded as a return to form for the franchise and marked a major departure from what fans had grown accustomed to over the past two decades.
Back in October, it was confirmed that Dexter: Resurrection had been greenlit for a Season 2, which will see the return of not just Dexter himself, but the latest enigmatic serial killer to haunt the streets of NYC — the New York Ripper. Previously compared to the likes of Arthur Mitchell, better known as the Trinity Killer, the return of the New York Ripper stands as a major highlight for fans even so far ahead of Season 2's release.
Unfortunately, fans who had been hoping for a spinoff series revolving around the Trinity Killer, originally portrayed on Dexter by John Lithgow, likely won't see the long-awaited project any time soon. Last year, Dexter showrunner Clyde B. Phillips said of the project, "It's on the back burner and, honestly, I don't know if [the network will] go for it. I just think they're interested in Dexter: Resurrection. If they [canceled] Original Sin, which was a built-in hit, how are they going to pick up the Trinity prequel? I don't see them doing it."
