One of the last pieces in the distribution diaspora fell into place today with the announcement that DSTRLY will be joining PRH for distribution. The deal was described as “a multi-year sales and distribution agreement” which begins in June 2025.
DSTLRY launched in 2023 as an innovative pub focused on creator-owned projects, founded by former comiXology executives David Steinberger and Chip Mosher. Sporting a glossy, magazine-sized format, DSTLRY went on something of a distribution journey, joining Lunar and Diamond in 2023, then going exclusive with Diamond back in July. Where they would find a new home following Diamonds bankruptcy was a big question, as it seems going back to Lunar was out of the question.
But now DSTRY has joined the elite ranks at PRH, alongside Marvel, IDW, Boom and Dark Horse. While Lunar has been able to pick up many publishers for the DM including Titan, Massive, and many more, PRH, one of the biggest book distributors in North America, has been much harder to get into, so kudos to DSTLRY. The players celebrated the deal with statements.
“Penguin Random House is the consummate leader in sales and distribution. They’re a perfect partner for DSTLRY to grow, reach more readers, and create new fans,” says Chip Mosher, DSTLRY Co-Founder and CCO.
“DSTLRY is a premium brand and Penguin Random House is a premium partner. With Penguin Random House, and the continued support of comic and bookstores, we’ll collectively be able to capitalize on opportunities as the DSTLRY library grows,” Co-Founder & CEO David Steinberger continues. Rachel Goldstein, EVP of Penguin Random House Publisher Services, said, “In just a short period of time, DSTLRY has established itself as one of the most innovative and refreshing publishers in the comic book and graphic novel markets. We’ve been wowed by the incredible list of creators they’ve developed and we’re excited to support them in reaching even more readers throughout the world.”
Founding creators at DSTLRY include Mirka Andolfo, Brian Azzarello, Marc Bernardin, Elsa Charretier, Becky Cloonan, Lee Garbett, Jock, Joëlle Jones, Tula Lotay, Jamie McKelvie, Junko Mizuno, Stephanie Phillips, Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, and Ram V, and Founding Editor Will Dennis. Somna by Becky Cloonan and Tula Lotay won the Eisner for Best New Series in 2024.
That leaves one Diamond Exclusive, Dynamite, without another distribution partner. Stay tuned!
Diamond Comics declared bankruptcy on January 14th. As publishers have scrambled to find new partners, last week it was announced that Alliance Entertainment had won the bankruptcy auction for Diamond assets. Courts have yet to finalize the deal and it seems that Alliance was most interested in Diamond’s toy and CGC business.
