The official solicit synopsis for Dungeon Crawler Carl #0 from Vault Comics reads, "NEW ACHIEVEMENT: You can read the first chapter for FREE! Wow, you can read?! The LitRPG smash hit phenomenon and New York Times bestseller, Dungeon Crawler Carl, is now a graphic novel for the very first time... You know what’s worse than breaking up with your girlfriend? Getting stuck on a sadistic alien game show with her cat. This FCBD special collects the first episode (and more!) of the WEBTOON series with over 3 Million Reads and 175,000 subscribers."

The Dungeon Crawler Carl series began with the novel of the same name, which was self-published by author and creator Matt Dinniman back in 2020. The series revolves around Carl, a Coast Guard veteran, and Princess Donut, his ex-girlfriend's cat, who find themselves among the unlikely survivors of an alien invasion that wiped out nearly the entire human race.

After remaking the world itself, the alien Borant Corporation forces the survivors to participate in Dungeon Crawler World, an intergalactic reality show in which contestants battle their way through the towering labyrinth constructed from Earth's own resources. With rules akin to most popular role-playing games, Carl quickly becomes a freedom fighter as much as he is a dungeon crawler, setting his sights on disrupting the interstellar corporatist system that ravaged everything he once knew.

Back in April, it was announced that streaming platform Peacock had officially acquired the rights to a live-action Dungeon Crawler Carl series, which is being produced by Seth MacFarlane via his Fuzzy Door banner. The official logline for the live-action series reads, "An alien invasion has wiped out most humanity, and many survivors are forced to fight for their lives in a sadistic intergalactic game show. Sounds bad, right? Now try doing it with bare feet and a stuck-up, self-centered, tiara-wearing talking cat as your partner."

The logline for Dungeon Crawler Carl continues, "Welcome to Dungeon Crawler World: Earth, where the apocalypse will be televised … and Coast Guard vet Carl finds himself stuck with his ex-girlfriend’s award-winning show cat, Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk, as they try to survive the end of the world, fighting monsters, aliens, an insane A.I. and even other survivors … all for the sake of good TV. Survival is optional. Entertainment is not.”
