Star Trek is finally ready to introduce fans to Deep Space Nine's replacement. A teaser for a new Star Trek story has revealed more information.

IDW Publishing recently released solicitations for its titles shipping in May, including a first look at Star Trek: The Last Starship #7. In the teaser for the issue, fans got to see the title of the Deep Space Nine replacement, which is interestingly titled Deep Space Hope. "The crew of the U.S.S. Omega are desperately trying to hold the Federation's vision of a united Galaxy together, but they're failing. The spirit of cooperation is dead, but Starfleet's mission might not be, thanks to a research station on the aptly named Deep Space Hope."

While more information about Deep Space Hope is expected to come with the arrival of Star Trek: The Last Starship #7 on May 20, IDW's solicit does tease how the location will play an important part in the story. "There, one last shining ray of possibility remains in an ever-darkening universe. A way to put everything back in its rightful place... if only Sato and his crew are bold enough to seize it."

The Star Trek: The Last Starship series is written by Jackson Lanzing and features art by Collin Kelly. The sixth issue, which hit shops on March 25, saw the Federation left fractured, vulnerable, and nearly lost as its fate hangs in the balance. As Captain Sato tries to protect Starfleet's ideals, enemies continue to close in — and an already dangerous mission gets even more intense as the story continues next month.

Deep Space Nine is a fictional space station that served as the primary setting for Star Trek's Deep Space Nine television series, run by a joint crew of Starfleet and Bajoran officers. It remains one of the most iconic parts of the Star Trek universe at large, and the fact that the series is introducing a replacement ship hints that an important successor is on the way. The exploration of Deep Space Hope will continue in the eighth issue, releasing in June, which will see Borg Queen Agnes Jurati leaving the crew behind to try and gain its power.

Star Trek: The Last Starship is set years after the 'Burn', which was a galaxy-wide event of pure destruction that took place around 3069 during the Star Trek timeline. During the Burn, most Dilithium mysteriously became inert, which led to a massive detonation of active technology that used it to regulate its energy, from starship warp cores all the way to planetary reactors.

The first issue of The Last Starship debuted back in September 2025, focusing on the only remaining ship after the Burn's devastation rocked the galaxy. With a ragtag crew exploring space, they find themselves with limited resources — and Captain Kirk must face a future without the Federation he held so close to his heart. Now, as Deep Space Hope draws nearer, even bigger changes appear to be in store... and Star Trek fans will have to wait until the seventh issue of the series drops next month to see where things are headed.

Star Trek: The Last Starship #7 goes on sale May 20 from IDW Publishing.
