What Is Ravenloft In Dungeons & Dragons?

Ravenloft is a fan-favorite Dungeons & Dragons setting, offering players a far more horror-centric experience than they would find exploring the likes of the Forgotten Realms. Since it was introduced in 1983, the dark and menacing alternate realm has been the setting for a myriad of hit campaigns, not to mention the home to countless iconic characters and monsters.

Ez D’Avenir was introduced in 2016 with the release of the Curse of Strahd adventure module for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. Ez D’Avenir is an incredibly capable monster hunter who relies on her battlefield prowess, cunning nature, and immense magical power as she traverses Ravenloft, cutting down all manner of menacing foes.

Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft will be just the latest in an ever-expanding line of Dungeons & Dragons comics published by Dark Horse Comics in recent years. Currently, fans are following along with one of the most beloved bands of adventurers of all time in the pages of Dungeons & Dragons: The Fallbacks by Greg Pak and artists Wilton Santos, Edvan Alves, and Raúl Angulo.

Dungeons & Dragons: The Fallbacks picks up with the eponymous adventuring party not long after the events of Jaleigh Johnson's 2024 novel, Dungeons & Dragons: The Fallbacks: Bound for Ruin, which marked the team's debut. The Fallbacks themselves consist of an eccentric and explosive group, including the young rogue Tessalynde, the stubborn fighter Anson, the surprisingly self-taught wizard Cazrin, the coldly calculating cleric Baldric, the surprisingly humble bard Lark, and the group's pet otyugh, Uggie. Since their first outing, the Fallbacks have returned for 2025's The Fallbacks: Dealing with Dragons, also written by Jaleigh Johnson.

Dungeons & Dragons: Ravenloft #1 from Dark Horse Comics goes on sale August 19.

The cover for the D&D 2024 Player's Handbook depicts characters of various classes and races with weapons out and magic at the ready while dragons of different sizes surround them.
