IDW Publishing is giving Event Horizon fans the highly anticipated sequel that they've always dreamed of, and as the story finally makes its debut, it reveals that there was a surprising survivor from the original film. Lieutenant M.K. Starck is off on a dangerous new adventure.
Teased as "Aliens meets Dante's Inferno", the new Event Horizon series dropped its debut issue on April 22, picking up 200 years after the events of the original film starring Laurence Fishburne, Sam Neill, Kathleen Quinlan, and Joely Richardson. "A billionaire brings his own private star fleet to the wreckage around Neptune," IDW's solicit teases. "He’s heard stories of the Event Horizon and will gleefully sacrifice any number of employees to uncover its secrets!"
New Event Horizon Sequel Reveals Lt. Strack Survived The Mayhem

Drawing influence from other epic sci-fi films, Inferno #1 doesn't waste any time setting up its plot, with its villainous billionaire Daniel Durante on the hunt for immortality and attempting to resurrect his brother — and proving he's willing to do whatever it takes to achieve those dreams.
As Durante's quest leads him to the wreckage site of the Event Horizon, his workers unknowingly wake up the demons on the ship. There, they find Lt. Starck, who is, surprisingly, still alive and ready to hunt down the demons once and for all.
For now, IDW is keeping the story details about where Inferno is headed under wraps. Solicits for the second issue, which releases on June 3, tease only further exploration of the Event Horizon site. The third issue, which releases on July 1, promises only that "Hell is a loop to be experienced again and again" — hinting that Strack's survival may not be all that it appears on the surface.
IDW Has Already Delivered an Exciting Event Horizon Prequel in 2025
Image via IDWWhile the new Inferno series is diving deep into the events after the hit 1997 film, IDW Publishing already gave fans a prequel series last year that followed the crew of the titular ship. The limited series ran for five issues and ran through February 2026. Ward, who is helming Inferno, also penned the prequel.
The original Event Horizon film has become a cult classic over the years after bombing at the box office in the 90s. Its classic story, which followed a troubled crew in the year 2047 as they try to rescue the missing Event Horizon spaceship, has gone on to influence many sci-fi and horror films since its inception.
Comic adaptations are likely to be the only continuation of the story that fans can expect, with filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson revealing back in 2020 that he had no interest in making a sequel or TV series for Event Horizon. "Slowly over time, it’s really built a very avid following, and I’m immensely proud of that," he shared. "And, for that reason, I didn’t want to go back to the same world and ruin it for anybody."
