Skybound, Image Comics, and Hasbro are bringing back one of G.I. Joe fans' favorite comic storylines with a twist. The new story will shine a spotlight on none other than the villainous Cobra.

Skybound revealed new cover art and interior pages from G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Sssilent Missions — Crimson Guard #1, a new one-shot story releasing as part of Skybound's Silent Missions month. The issue is written and illustrated by Gabriel Hardman (Green Lantern: Earth One) and will go on sale April 8. It continues the popular fan-favorite format of 'Silent' issues, which was first introduced in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #21's action-packed story without any dialogue.

G.I. Joe Returns For Second Year of Silent Missions

This April, Skybound brings back the Silent Missions Month that fans have come to know and love, but puts a twist on the popular format, with Cobra and its most lethal members being the focus of these silent, high-stakes stories. Skybound has teased a lineup of superstar creators for the issues, with Crimson Guard set to be the second in five planned Silent Missions. Each will be released on Wednesdays in April.

"Gabriel Hardman invites you to join the next graduating class of Crimson Guard as they complete their final test: protecting Cobra Commander from an all-out assault by G.I. Joe," Skybound's description of the upcoming issue teases. "Failure is NOT an option!"

Hardman provides interior art, story, and the main cover for the issue. A lineup of variant art includes an open order cover by Rorschach's Jorge Fornes, a 1:10 incentive black and white version of Hardman's cover, and the continuation of the 1:25 incentive foil letter cover series, also by Fornes, which will spell out 'COBRA.'

Other creators releasing all-new Silent Mission one-shots include Joelle Jones & Declan Shalvey, Pat Olliffe & Tom DeFalco, Howard Porter, and Jorge Fornés. More details about the further Cobra stories are expected to follow in the weeks leading up to their releases throughout April.

The return of Silent Missions Month isn't the only G.I. Joe goodness fans can look forward to. Later this month, Skybound will launch another Kickstarter campaign, focusing on G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero Compendium Sets 1+2. It will offer fans the definitive hardcover collection of the legendary G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero comic across eight volumes, with issues #1-300 and more when it opens on March 24.

Collectors can already sign up for Kickstarter's mailing list at GIJoeKickStarter.com to receive campaign details and updates ahead of the launch. The website also offers an incentive for those who sign up for the mailing list, with a Kickstarter-exclusive G.I. Joe #244 variant for those who end up pledging a physical book during the campaign's run.
