The following contains major spoilers for DC K.O. #2, on sale now from DC Comics.

The most unhinged anti-villain in DC Comics finally has superpowers to call her own, and there is no telling what she will do with them. At long last, Harley Quinn gets a long-awaited upgrade.

DC K.O. #2 (by Scott Snyder, Joshua Williamson, Javi Fernández, Xermánico, Alejandro Sánchez, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou) picks up with the 36 heroes and villains of the DC Universe (or at least those still standing) who have been assembled to take part in a grand battle royale for the fate of all reality. When a handful of the most powerful weapons and artifacts in existence are left for the challengers to claim, it is only a matter of time before multiple combatants go for the Speed Force Ring. Of course, only one can claim it, and Harley Quinn makes sure she is the one to do just that.

While the Speed Force has long been a part of the wider DC Comics mythos, and while various iterations of the Flash have used rings to keep their suits on hand at any given time, DC K.O. #2 is the first time that the Speed Force Ring has appeared. As seen after Harley acquires the Speed Force Ring, it appears to turn its wearer into a speedster, although to what extent that particular set of powers runs still remains to be seen.

The official solicit synopsis for DC K.O. #2 from DC Comics reads, "The 32 champions have been chosen, and now they must compete to earn the Heart of Apokolips. The first challenge? Battling across a deadly arena to acquire new weapons of war. The greatest powers of the DC Universe are up for grabs, and whoever holds them will advance to the next level. Superman has his doubts that the Justice League is doing the right thing, but there are others who have no problem killing to get what they want..."

What To Expect From DC K.O.

DC K.O. brings together 32 of the most powerful heroes and villains in the DC Universe for a fight to determine who among them is worthy of standing against Darkseid, who has ascended to the role of King Omega, a being capable of altering the very fabric of reality. Writer Scott Snyder previously described the situation as, "Darkseid has evolved into something bigger and stronger than ever... There’s no future for the DC Universe because of what he’s done—the heroes’ only shot is to stop him in the present."

While there are plenty of heroes, and potentially villains, who could take the final stand against Darkseid and stand a chance, it doesn't seem like any of them will get the chance to do so. This is largely due to the fact that the King Omega himself has already infiltrated the ongoing battle from behind the scenes by taking the form of none other than Booster Gold.

To make matters worse, Darkseid's "Booster Gold" is a member of the Quantum Quarum who brought together the world's heroes to deal with the threat he poses in the first place. As such, Darkseid is not only in the perfect position to disrupt the tournament and eliminate any would-be competition ahead of time, he knows everything there is to about those involved thanks to his place within such a shadowy organization.
