Skybound Entertainment has been having a series of critically acclaimed AND commercially successful comic book adaptations through Image Comics of the Universal Monsters series of characters, and the book that launched the whole line, Universal Monsters Dracula, will now be re-released in a cool black and white special edition.
Universal Monsters Dracula Black & White Special will be a two-issue series reprinting the Eisner Award-nominated original miniseries by James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds, but with two issues reprinted in each issues of the special (so issues #1-2 will be in the first issue of the Special, and issues #3-4 will be in the second issue), and with the story being re-done in black and white, to evoke the atmosphere of the original 1931 Universal Pictures adaptation of Dracula, starring the iconic Bela Lugosi.
What is the solicitation for the new series?

THE EISNER AWARD-NOMINATED SERIES IS RESURRECTED IN GLORIOUS BLACK & WHITE!
From THE DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH creators JAMES TYNION IV (Exquisite Corpses, Something is Killing the Children) and MARTIN SIMMONDS present the first two issues of their acclaimed series in remastered stunning black & white in a tribute to the iconic film that changed the face of horror.
When Dr. John Seward admits a strange new patient into his asylum, the madman tells stories of a demon who has taken residence next door. But as Dr. Seward attempts to apply logic to the impossible…his surrogate daughter Lucy begins to fall under the spell of the twisted Count Dracula!
What does the editor of the Dracula special have to say about the new release?
In a press release by Skybound to announce the new series, Editorial Director at Skybound, Alex Antone, noted, "Back by popular demand, we’re thrilled to be offering a special black & white presentation of the Universal Monsters project that started it all—James Tynion IV & Martin Simmonds’ DRACULA!” Readers will be transported back to the days of classic cinema, and this hefty 2-in-1 printing pairs well with a nice glass of...wine!”
Simmonds garnered an Eisner Award-nomination for the original series for Best Painter/Multimedia Artist (Interior Art), and readers will get to experience that award-nominated artwork through a different lens in all black and white. There is always something a little bit different with a horror title when you do things all in black and white, and that is clear in the above pages that Skybound released to promote the special. The dichotomy between black and white when paired together makes the white images pop off the page in a way that they really don't when everything is done in color.
James Tynion IV is currently back into the swing of the Universal Monsters theme with the current Universal Monsters Invisible Man series that he is writing, with stunning artwork from Dani (colored by Brad Simpson).
Universal Monsters Dracula Black & White Special #1 is out this Wednesday, October 28th.
