Actor Hugh Jackman may have earned an Academy Award nomination for Les Misérables (2012), but comic fans know him best as Wolverine in the X-Men franchise. Wolverine made his latest big-screen appearance in the 2024 MCU blockbuster, Deadpool & Wolverine, in an unlikely team-up with Wade Wilson, but it turns out fans may not have seen the last of Jackman’s iconic character.
Per Variety, Jackman sat down with Wicked: For Good star Cynthia Erivo. During the chat, the subject of the future of Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine was addressed.
“It doesn’t feel like the end,” Jackman began. “It really felt like the end after Logan,” he said, referring to the 2017 James Mangold-directed emotional roller of a film. “Actually, I needed to claim it as the end, because I really believed in some things that I wanted that movie to be, and I had to fight for them.”
Jackman continued about Logan, “I had to say, ‘This is the last time I’m doing it.’ Then, when I saw Deadpool, I was like, ‘Oh, I see 48 Hours. I see Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte.’ But I would shove it down. ‘I’ve told everyone that I’m done. I’m not one of those guys.’ Then I went, ‘You know what? I change my mind. It’s not that big of a deal. I’m not even gonna say I’m sorry.’ And it was so awesome.”
Deadpool & Wolverine Director Talks a Potential Fourth Movie

The third Deadpool installment made over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. So far, there’s not been any official announcement of a Deadpool 4, but in an interview during the On Film…With Kevin McCarthy Podcast, he talked about the possibility of more movies.
“I mean, this applies to Stranger Things 5, too,” Levy began. “When you are telling a story that has the benefit of legacy connection between the audience and the characters, you’re sort of like on second base already. ... When I look at Deadpool & Wolverine, that became a love letter to that [20th Century Fox] legacy. We were also able to tap into years of legacy storytelling.”
Levy continued about the potential for Deadpool 4, seeing that right now, the Deadpool franchise is essentially a trilogy. “I don’t know about rule of threes, because the truth is, as I contemplate, for instance, ‘OK, how do we make another Deadpool movie?’ Sequels are hard. They are dauntingly hard. I made three Night at the Museum movies. It kicked my ass every time. And so, yeah, having seen how the sausage of sequels is made, I find the whole subject a little stressful because you want to get it right,” he said.
Jackman touched on whether he would be back in any of the upcoming Phase 6 Avengers movies. When asked, he simply said, “Maybe.” He then added, “I’m never saying ‘never’ ever again. I did mean it until the day I changed my mind. I did mean it for quite a few years. I have done ten films now, so I think they have enough for an AI version of me!”
For now, fans of Jackman’s take on Wolverine can catch him in Deadpool & Wolverine, which is streaming on Disney+.
