Hulk #13 (2009)

2 weeks ago 16

We start with a “Hulk No More” tribute cover variant and then it’s on to what for this series passes as a down-time issue with a Bruce-Banner-focused story–also a rarity in this series. Banner is hiding in the secret underground desert base that Rick Jones used to lock him into back in his early “I change at night” days of being Hulk. Due to the events of Incredible Hulk #600, Banner is cured of being Hulk. Rick “A-Bomb” Jones himself shows up and we learn that he’s not actually blue all the time–he can change colors to help him hide. Because it’s the color that makes a ten-foot tall, two-ton monster conspicuous.

Meanwhile, Norman Osborn learns of green Hulk’s “demise” and sends Ares to take Banner.

Big fight. I told you that this issue was this series’ version of a down-time story. That means that giant, muscle-bound characters beating the snot out of each other in full-page panels doesn’t start until page 12.

Banner manages to lock Ares into the Hulk-chamber so they can get away.

Then, instead of using his color-changes, A-Bomb uses a trenchcoat to hide.

Meh.

Also in this issue: “Moonlight” Ms. Marvel
