Patrik Walker is an Emmy Award–winning writer who covers all things Comics & Superheroes. His work can also be found at the Dallas Cowboys, The Sporting News, and CBS Sports, among other outlets. One of the most respected names in his field, he is also a diehard enthusiast of all things comics, anime, gaming and movies — thriving in spaces where discussions involving those or similar topics reign supreme.

The days can't fly by quickly enough for everyone waiting with bated breath for the eventual release of Tom Holland's fourth MCU standalone film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day and, on the animated front, the third and final installment of Miles Morales' adventures, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, but Marvel know how to whet the appetites of the Wallcrawler's most feverish fans, and that's with The Amazing Spider-Man series that's been well-received and thoroughly enjoyed by those who dove into its panels from the beginning.

But the end is near, and it won't be a quiet one for Peter Parker. When The Amazing Spider-Man #22 arrives on shelves, it'll ratchet up the intensity for what comes next — an extinction level event called Death Spiral, and the stage is being set for all Spider-Men to be put to the test in ways they never imagined possible.

"Spidey better take a deep, deep breath."

Recently, series editor Nick Lowe spoke about the events to come at the Marvel Comics: Spider-Man and his Venomous Friends Panel during 2025 New York Comic Con, as Spider-Man, Venom and Carnage find themselves locked in an inescapable weave of fate that will lead into Death Spiral, a 2026 cataclysm that's sure to be one hell of a ride, with an emphasis on the "hell" part, because Parker better strap on his suit and webslingers extra tight for this one.

None of this will be pleasant for Spider-Man, because he's not just up against familiar foes, but even the love of his life is suiting up for this one — and as Venom, no less, Eddie Brock then absorbing a different but more terrifying symbiote enemy of everyone's Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. To put it plainly, this is going to be utter insanity, say its writers.

“One of the wildest times in Spider and Symbiote history revs into high gear with this killer crossover! Not only will readers get to witness Peter Parker learn that his long-time love, Mary Jane Watso, is bonded with one of his greatest nemeses, but both learn that Eddie Brock has paired with the baddest symbiote ever, Carnage. They’ll all be even more horrified when they face a scarier villain—Torment! No one is safe."

Charles Soule, one of the writers of Death Spiral, added more breadth to the outlook, and for what fans should expect.

"Spider-Man, Venom, Carnage, Mary Jane—they’re essentially a weird family unit, interconnected with gigantic amounts of history together. There’s an engine there, there’s a lot of emotional energy in there to break apart.” Kelly then punctuating it all: “And then we needed a serial killer."

And there it is: what might be one of the best series in the history of Spider-Man and Marvel, scheduled to begin in February 2026, and The Amazing Spider-Man #22 will play a massive part in helping to bring everything to a head before it hits the shelves at your local comic books store. Rest assured, fans should probably also take a deep, deep breath. because the end is near.
