The following contains major spoilers for The Immortal Thor #25, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Marvel's God of Thunder is about to enter his mortal era.

As revealed by Marvel Comics, The Immortal Thor has officially come to an end with the release of the series' twenty-fifth issue on July 2. The landmark issue marked the end of Thor's long-running battle against the Utgard-Loki and their fellow long-lost Elder Gods, which ended with his untimely demise at the hands of none other than his sibling Loki. This demise led Thor to a direct confrontation with the God of Thunder's former other half, Donald Blake, now known better as the God of Lies. Rather than battling Donald head-on, however, Thor took it upon himself to steal away with the one human soul to spare between them and, in doing so, began his new life as the very much Mortal Thor.

Mortal Thor #1

This transformation will lead directly into the upcoming series The Mortal Thor from writer Al Ewing and Pasqual Ferry. It is also just one of the many major developments in the Asgardian corner of the Marvel Universe, as the realm itself and all its gods have been wiped from the memory of the rest of the universe following the absolute destruction of its fabled Rainbow Bridge. This will have some serious implications for things to come in The Mortal Thor. Fans can get their first look at the first three main issues for The Mortal Thor from acclaimed artist Alex Ross, which each offer a glimpse into what the series holds for the now forgotten Avenger.

Per the official synopsis for The Mortal Thor #1 from Marvel Comics, "The Norse Myths tell of Gods who walked the Earth, doing great deeds for the mortals who believed in them. But Asgard isn't real, and never was. The Gods never soared in our skies, never stood with our heroes, never fought for kindness or justice. It was all just a story. Nobody's coming to help us. But somewhere in the city... a man is waking up. A man with a hammer. This is the story of Sigurd Jarlson, the MORTAL THOR!"

The next era in X-Men history has just been revealed, and the Age of Revelation might just be the most painful mutantkind has ever seen.

Following the release of The Immortal Thor #25, writer Al Ewing explained that he is now able to "be a little more open about the exact nature of the second act of the story." Ewing went on to say of the overarching story that ties the two series, "This was an idea that sprang into being from the original pitch; I wanted to treat Thor as a God, and give him a truly mythological story... but as well as the son of Odin, he's the son of Gaea. So we find ourselves in winter. Thor is dead, and Sigurd Jarlson walks the earth - without power, without fame, without memory. And yet the fate of Asgard and Midgard rests on this mortal man making the journey to return the magic of the Gods to the Earth. And to get there - to even learn the nature of the quest - he's going to have to fight.
