Returning Man of Tomorrow writer-director James Gunn wastes no time shutting down a major rumor about the Superman sequel's cast.
As noted by fan account DC Film News on Twitter, James Gunn only had one word for the rumor that Wonder Woman mainstay Steve Trevor would be showing up in Man of Tomorrow — "Nope."
Making his debut right alongside Wonder Woman herself in William Moulton Marston and Harry G. Peter's closing story from 1942's All-Star Comics #8, "Introducing Wonder Woman," the classic Steve Trevor was a United States Air Force pilot who crashed down on Paradise Island and was rescued by the titular hero. Over the years, Steve Trevor has played a key role in almost every iteration of Wonder Woman's story, and as such has become a DC Comics icon in his own right.
The hotly-anticipated follow-up to Superman starring David Corenswet, Man of Tomorrow is currently slated to arrive in theaters in 2027 and bring back the first film's core cast for another high-flying adventure. Currently, Man of Tomorrow is set to include appearances from returning stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders a.k.a Hawkgirl, María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica a.k.a the Engineer, and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.
The DC Universe Continues To Grow
Image via DC StudiosGrillo opened up about his various upcoming roles, which included touching on what part his Rick Flag Sr. will have to play in Man of Tomorrow. "My character, Rick Flag Sr., is a big part of the sequel's story, so I'm excited about it," Grillo said at the time, although he didn't offer any firm details on what the story of Man of Tomorrow will entail. That being said, fans can expect that Man of Tomorrow will follow up on the events of Season 2 of Peacemaker, especially with Rick Flag Sr.'s increased presence being such a big factor.
Man of Tomorrow won't be the only DCU production spun out of the events of Superman. Currently, audiences are also looking forward to the release of Supergirl starring Milly Alcock on June 26, 2026. Directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenlay by Ana Nogueira, which itself was inspired by Tom King and Bilquis Evely's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the film will see Alcock's titular hero embark upon a cosmic journey unlike any fans have seen from the DCU yet.
To top things off, a Superman spinoff series from American Vandal creators Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda was announced in early November. The series will star Skyler Gisondo in a reprisal of his Superman role as Jimmy Olsen, and will largely revolve around the life and work of the people who make the Daily Planet what it is. The series' first season is reportedly going to feature Gorilla Grodd as its main villain, which will open up entire corners of the DCU for exploration.
Man of Tomorrow releases on Jul. 9., 2027.
