Jeff Bezos Wants Sydney Sweeney as 007’s Next Bond Girl

Reports about Amazon taking creative control of the James Bond franchise caused concern among longtime fans when the deal was first announced. For now, production on the next 007 film seems to be moving forward without open conflict. Director Denis Villeneuve, known for Dune, has signed on to direct the 26th Bond movie. The script is being written by Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders.

Even so, new reports claim that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos continues to involve himself in the project. According to Variety, Bezos has been pushing to cast Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney in a key role as the new “Bond girl.” Sweeney, recognized for her work in The White Lotus, Madame Web, and the upcoming sports drama Christy, has reportedly been under consideration for the reboot for some time. Sources suggest Bezos wants to ensure her inclusion.

Observers have noted Sweeney’s personal and business ties to Bezos, including her attendance at his wedding to Lauren Sánchez and a collaboration connected to her lingerie line. When asked by Variety about the rumors, Sweeney’s response was cautious.

“I can’t. [Seven-second pause.] I don’t know. [Ten-second pause.] To be honest, I don’t know all the Bond rumors, but I’ve always been a huge fan of the franchise, and I’m excited and curious to see what they do with it.”

Pressed further, Sweeney indicated some interest in appearing in the series—but not necessarily in the expected way. “Depends on the script,” she said. “I think I’d have more fun as James Bond.”

The modern Bond films have updated the image of the “Bond girl,” portraying female characters as more active participants in the story rather than as background figures. Whether Sydney Sweeney joins that tradition remains unconfirmed. Still, reports of Bezos influencing casting and creative direction raise questions about how independent the Bond team truly is under Amazon’s ownership.

Other rumors about the upcoming film suggest that the story will center on the growing threat of artificial intelligence. One source told Variety, “This is the first Bond of the AI era and the plot is going to reflect that. Writers are going to have some fun. This next Bond movie has to feel bold, fresh and relevant — especially after such a long break.”

Producers are said to be searching for a new, younger actor to play James Bond as the franchise enters its next chapter. Whether this Amazon-backed reboot will live up to its predecessors—or lose its edge under corporate oversight—remains to be seen.
