The Daydream Theatre Company, in partnership with the Rhode Island Stage Ensemble, is excited to announce the return of live theater at Bell Street Chapel with the spring production of Jerry and Joe: Birth of the Superhero. Written and directed by Lenny Schwartz, this heartfelt and humorous play tells the incredible true story of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the creators of Superman. Their journey from selling their comic book creation for $130.00 to becoming the unsung heroes behind the first superhero in comic book history is a narrative filled with laughter, heartbreak, and redemption.
After more than a decade, the Daydream Theatre Company is thrilled to return to the iconic Bell Street Chapel (located at 5 Bell Street, Providence, RI), bringing this powerful story to the stage once more. The performances will run on the evenings of May 15th, 16th, 17th, 22nd, 23rd, and 24th, 2025, at 8:00 PM.
In the late 1930s, Jerry and Joe's creation of Superman changed the world of comics forever, but the two Cleveland-based creators were left nearly penniless after selling the rights to the character for just $130. This play offers a deeper look into their lives, struggles, and their eventual place in comic book history. It is a story of creativity, perseverance, and the underdog spirit that still resonates today.
Tickets for the show are $18.00 online and $20.00 at the door. Tickets are available for purchase from the Rhode Island Stage Ensemble.
