Krysten Ritter is set to return as Jessica Jones in Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, and signs point to her staying in the Marvel universe for some time. Ritter first played Jessica Jones in November 2015 on Netflix’s Jessica Jones, and later appeared in The Defenders, the second and third seasons of her own series. Fans have wanted her back ever since the Netflix show ended, citing her portrayal of the tough private investigator with superpowers.
During a recent interview at New York Comic-Con, Ritter discussed the future of her character. She shared that plans for a fourth season of Jessica Jones were in the works before the series was canceled, but the writers managed to provide an ending. While talking to Brandon Davis at Phase Hero Live, Ritter addressed her upcoming role in Daredevil: Born Again and suggested it would not be her only appearance. When asked about where she hopes Jessica Jones will go, Ritter said, “There’s a lot of stuff that I’ve felt there was room to explore and Brad [Winderbaum] and I talked about it. And I’m not going to say any of it, because we’re going to be doing it.”
Jessica Jones will be featured in Season 2 and the newly confirmed Season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again, but there is room for her to show up elsewhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One possibility is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set in New York City. This would reference comic book history where Jessica Jones was retconned as one of Peter Parker’s classmates, though those details would change for the film version.

While Jessica Jones does not currently fit into the larger stories like Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars, her skills could be useful in shows that focus on street-level heroes. As a private investigator, a crossover with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is possible, if Marvel continues that series. Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum has not ruled out a standalone revival either. Various storylines from the Defenders Saga remain open for exploration, including those involving her sister, Trish Walker, and other prominent villains held in The Raft.
Jessica Jones’ return raises the likelihood that Mike Colter’s Luke Cage could also come back. In the comics, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage marry and have a child named Danielle. Introducing this storyline would add new depth to the character and create fresh stories for the MCU. A show featuring both Jessica Jones and Luke Cage would complement the bigger Marvel films and fit well with the streaming series format on Disney+.
