Last time on Justice League Unlimited…
A heavily injured Time Trapper had crashed into the Justice League Watchtower. Unfortunately, his powers started going haywire and destroying the place, putting the Leaguers on-board at risk. However, out of all the Leaguers present, Mr. Terrific faces death first as the captured Parademon has an explosive birth and its offspring now swarm him. Meanwhile, in Markovia, a contingent of Leaguers check out a hole in the Earth and get greeted by a giant fist. How will the Justice League deal with this three-prong threat?

League vs. Legion
It’s clear at this point that in order to get the full picture of events leading up to DC K.O. you’ll probably have to check out multiple titles. Out of these titles, it appears that Justice League Unlimited and Superman are the most important. However, they aren’t the only ones as we have multiple one-shots also leading up to the event, focusing on the Justice League. This is worth mentioning as this issue ends on a cliffhanger that makes no sense unless you have also read this week’s issue of Superman. I mean, if people have to consider buying so much when the event hasn’t even begun, what happens when it does?

Anyway, back to this issue. The Markovia contingent fight a bunch of evil Legionnaires, though they beat them fairly easily. I’m assuming this hole plays a big role later on, so it was set up in this issue and the last.

The main focus is on Mr. Terrific as he scrambles to save himself from dying by Parademon brood as the Watchtower collapses around him. Mileage will vary on how people feel about no Leaguers being available to help him as we only see a handful of them dealing with the Time Trapper crisis. But the Watchtower is falling apart, so I could see the Leaguers prioritizing that instead. However, I did find Michael’s solution to the demon infestation pretty creative so points for that.

There isn’t much more to say plot wise. However, instead of Dan Mora, Carmine Di Giandomenico takes over art duties this issue, though Tamra Bonvillain remains on colors. This works well, and I’m not just saying that because poor Dan Mora got a bit of a break. Di Giandomenico’s more fluid art style actually helps sell the frenetic atmosphere on the Watchtower really well. Especially, when Michael is making his way through the Watchtower and Bonvillain switches up the colors for those sequences.
Recommended If
- You’re reading everything leading up to DC K.O.
- You’re a fan of Carmine Di Giandomenico’s art.
- You enjoy tense chase scenes in confined spaces.
Overall
Justice League Unlimited #11 continues the lead up to DC K.O. Sadly while the book itself has been defined by events, leading it to not develop an identity of its own, it serves well as another chapter in the Absolute (?) saga. I just wonder when this all ends, what will this book even look like?
