The official solicit synopsis for Escape from Skull Island #1 from Titan Comics reads, "Trapped on Skull Island, a desperate band of survivors struggles against the land’s relentless horrors while an ancient threat rises from below. But as chaos unfolds, flashbacks reveal Kong’s turbulent youth: his battles, losses, and the primal instincts that shaped him into the island’s sovereign. Now, as hordes of monstrous beasts close in on the stranded humans, the most dangerous enemy of all regains strength to once more challenge Kong’s throne."

The Skull Island animated series premiered on Netflix back in 2023 and offered audiences a whole new adventure set within the Legendary Pictures MonsterVerse. Set in the early '90s, Skull Island follows a small ensemble cast of characters who set out in search of a young girl missing at sea, only for their own ship to be left wrecked upon the shores of Skull Island, home to a variety of monstrous beasts, including the infamous Kong. Skull Island received generally favorable reviews from both critics and audiences at the time of its release, with the series currently boasting an 82% "Fresh" rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as averaged across 17 verified critical reviews.

Escape from Skull Island is the second MonsterVerse comic released by Titan Comics following Furman and Jones' Return to Skull Island. Released earlier this year, Return to Skull Island followed a group of explorers in their adventures on Skull Island, where they face off against not just shadowy enemies and the island's inhabitants, but the overtly treacherous terrain itself. In 2026, fans will be able to revisit Return to Skull Island courtesy of the upcoming collected edition currently set to be released on Feb. 3.

Escape from Skull Island #1 goes on sale Jan. 28, 2026, from Titan Comics.
