Good things come to those who wait—especially KPop Demon Hunters fans. Following the massive success of the film’s debut on Netflix earlier this year, the fandom has taken over the Internet and the world. But KPop Demon Hunters 2 is still a few years ago, according to Bloomberg.
Netflix has just finalized contracts with the directors and Sony for KPop Demon Hunters 2, which is slated for release in 2029. The first movie, co-directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, was developed by Sony with its own animation division.
2029 may seem far away, but in the grand scheme of animated movies, it’s not that bad. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, also from Sony, were released in 2018 and 2023, respectively. By that measure, the KPDH sequel is actually releasing sooner than expected.
In the meantime, Mattel and Hasbro have agreed to share the master license to produce toys from the film, with dolls, games, collectibles, and more hitting shelves in 2026. These will join a line of Funko Pop! collectible figurines in what is surely just the beginning of a long list of collaborations. The characters are also set to appear in a Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair drop. The Fortnite collab already happened (and it was epic).
KPop Demon Hunters follows Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo) as HUNTR/X, a girl group tasked with protecting the mortal realm from demons. They face a new challenge when the demon Jinu (Ahn Hyo-seop) forms a boy group to try to sway the girls’ fans toward the demon realm. The fate of the world literally hinges upon their rivalry.
