The history of Star Wars comic books over the years have been built in the mysteries between the various films. For instance, Marvel has had the Star Wars license back since late 2014, and in those years, there have been basically three major "eras" that the comic books have been set in. Initially, the stories were set between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, then the stories were set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and now, the main titles are set after Return of the Jedi.
However, there are also ancillary Star Wars titles set at different points in time, and the new maxiseries, Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, is set between the events of The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, showing what happened to Kylo Ren between the two films. The series is almost over now, and CBR has an exclusive preview of next week's penultimate issue from writer Charles Soule and artist Luke Ross, as we see if Kylo can be pushed too far to become the new Darth Vader.

In the preview pages, we see the ultimate fallacy in Kylo Ren's obsession with his grandfather, Darth Vader. Kylo Ren has been searching for himself in the legacy of Vader, but obviously, you can't get too caught up in the shadow of another person, and Kylo Ren is realizing that when he is taken captive by Vaneé.
Vaneé was one of Darth Vader's servants, and just like how Kylo Ren has become obsessed with trying to bring about the new world order that his grandfather was never really able to bring about, Vaneé, too, is obsessed with trying to recreate his old master. Vaneé is effectively just a head in a box at this point, but he wants to use Kylo Ren to bring Vader back.
Kylo Ren will have to die in the process, but as Vaneé points out, Anakin Skywalker had to die for Darth Vader to live, so what's one more person, right? Kylo Ren, naturally, has a problem with this position, but as the preview pages end, he sees himself tormented by the visage of Vader's helmet. It is such a powerful piece of imagery, and it was something that we saw drove Kylo Ren in the first film in the new trilogy, The Force Awakens.
Now, though, instead of a tribute, it appears to be a punishment, but you'll have to pick up a copy of Legacy of Vader #11 next week to see what ACTUALLY happens next.
